Texan vs Appalachian: Two Southern American Accents
“A Southern accent” is not one accent, and these are the two poles of it. Texas speech carries Western and Mexican influence alongside the Southern vowel shift; Appalachian English is the older, more conservative variety, preserving forms the rest of American English lost.
