The accent quiz: find where your English is from
The accent quiz is the main entry point on DialectGuessr. You answer short questions about everyday speech, pin the town or city where you grew up, and see which regional accent profiles fit your answers. You also get the famous speakers nearest to the way you talk.
What the quiz asks
There is one fixed bank of 45 single-choice questions: 22 about vocabulary and 23 about pronunciation and grammar. The quiz walks through a core set first, then may add up to four follow-ups chosen to split whichever regional profiles are still close to your answers.
The questions are identical for everyone. Whether you say soda or pop, tea or dinner, or whether "fur" rhymes with "fair", the bank is the same. That makes any two people comparable and lets the community map show real regional splits.
How your answers are scored
Each answer is compared against 37 regional accent profiles built from primary-source recordings. Pronunciation answers count more than vocabulary answers, because they are harder to change deliberately.
Your hometown pin does not change the headline match. The ranked accents come from speech answers alone. The place you grew up is kept separately for the map and for checking how close the prediction was.
What you get at the end
The results screen names your closest regional profiles, the features that put you there, and the celebrity reference speaker nearest to your answers. Your pin joins the worldwide community map alongside everyone else who has taken the quiz.
You can share a link inviting someone else to take the same quiz and compare answers side by side.
Cost and privacy
The quiz is free, needs no account, and shows no ads. Answers and your chosen hometown are stored without a name or email, and you can delete your result immediately after submitting it.
